Exception when executing PrepareNoProjectTm: Unexpected exception when configuring file multiFileConverter for task 'Word Count': Object reference not set to an instance of an object..

Hi all,

I'm using SDL Trados 2017 Project Automation API. The code is working fine in creating project using template, adding files, scanning files, and converting to translatable format. But when it got to Word Count, the exception occurred. When I opened the project using SDL Trados Studio 2017, and looked at Task History of the project, I can see this error:

Can someone help me debug this issue?

Hi Reiko

Are you running the task on a source file?
The Word Count batch task cannot be ran on Source Files.

Hi Jesse,

In order to run RunAutomaticTasks using PrepareNoProjectTm, I thought it requires Source Language Files... How could I send different set of projectFileIds to RunAutomaticTasks?

I also tried running RunAutomaticTasks using AnalyzeFiles. This time, I am passing in projectFileIds for target files. But, the task fails with following message:

Unexpected exception when initializing task 'Analyze Files': Failed to create an instance of translation provider 'sdltm.nicgroupshare-test/ Languages/Asian Languages/Japanese&tmName=Japanese RnD Test'..

Here's Error Dialog when I open project in Trados Studio:

Any clue for this error?

Hi Reiko,

It sounds like you are using a custom version of PrepareNoProjectTm. Normally Word Count is not included. You will need to remove Word Count from the task sequence.

For your second error, please look at:

Please instruct me on how I can remove Word Count from the PrepareNoProjectTM task sequence.

For the second error, I saved the project just as suggested in https://community.sdl.com/developers/language-developers/f/57/p/12801/45615#45615. But error still exist. Romulus' last commend says to "specify the url including the sdltm exactly as specified when creating the TranslationProviderReference." But, doesn't 'sdltm.nicgroupshare-test/ Languages/Asian Languages/Japanese&tmName=Japanese RnD Test' as mentioned in the error message look collect?

I really appreciate your help in debugging this issue!

"Word Count" task is NOT the same as "Analyze Files" task, which is run as part of the "Prepare without project TM" task sequence.
Do yourself a favor and look in the tasks and task sequences setup in your Studio.
You seem to be confusing these two... just as Romulus did in his comment.

Hi,the problem I'm having with "Prepare without project TM" and "Analyze Files" are two separate issues.

I used to have both work fine back when I was using 2014 API. But with 2017 API, they are causing all these issues. What do I have to do for all these problem to go away?

As mentioned previously, check your "Prepare without project TM" and "Analyze Files" task sequences definitions.
Perhaps you have redefined them in your Studio 2014 installation.
We know NOTHING about your setup, we cannot help you more.
