We are discussing here about the possibility to preview indesign and framemaker files in Studio 2011. Preview possibilities don't exist yet, but is there any possibility to programm a preview plug-in or are such plug-ins only available for special files like xml? Is somebody already working on this at sdl?

preview can be done easily - as soon as Adobe will release some kind of viewer.
The only option at the moment is to have FrameMaker/InDesign installed - both formats are too complex to create some kind of simplified preview.
We thought about internal preview but as this will require significant investment on translator side and we were not sure how many translators will actually use the preview we focused on other things.

for an InDesign preview to work, I suspect you'd need to deploy some full-blown server-based solution by Adobe and program for it, similar to what these guys have done: www.1io.com/index.php

Please, I have to translate a document made with indesign. I received an information that I can open the file in Studio 2011 since it is saved with the extension .idml. Is that possible?
Yes, you can translated InDesign CS4, CS5 and CS5.5 IDML Files with Studio 2011. However, I'm not sure, if the SDL OpenExchange Developers is the right place for this question :-)
