Not Considering

At the moment, the rule is as follows:

The background purge task runs periodically with the following frequency:

  • If the maximum age has a higher value than 86400 seconds (24 hrs), it will run every 24 hours starting from when the LW Edge service started.
  • If the maximum age has a lower value than 86400 seconds (24 hrs), it will run periodically at the maximum age value specified starting from when the LW Edge service started.

This is made to ensure that purge is not performed too often and won't impact the system performance.

Enable more frequent automatic purges

Because MTE runs automatic purges at the same rate as the specified maximum age (or once daily if set to more than 86,400 seconds), translations often exceed their intended lifespan before being purged. Could the purges be more frequent, regardless of the maximum age value?

  • Completely agree! If we take an example scenario:

00:00 Purge timing set to 86,400 seconds

    00:01 Translations made

At 00:00 the next day, the purge is executed and does not identify the translations as ready to be purged.

At 00:00 the following day, close to 48 hours later, the translations are finally purged.

It makes sense to me that the frequency of the check is run at a greater interval so that purges take place closer to the intended limit.
