Being able to specify in the condition what topics to be translated in the translation job.

In our workplace we are using the DITA system. Currently, if you create a translation kit in the Translation job from the Publication and execute Send to translation. Objects with only a source language (no translation) or to be translated object will be translated.

We have two groups: groups responsible for User manuals and Workshop manuals. The group for User manual uses a different translation company but there are topics in User manual that is being shared in the Workshop Manual.

Sometimes the publication in Workshop Manual were finished first than the user manual. When we create a translation kit for the WSM, the topics that is supposed to be translated for the user manual would be inside the translation kit.

There is a discussion if a condition could be created when creating a translation kit where we could pick User manual topics and WSM topics. In Translation job, we want to specify the object to be translated by using the meta information existing in the object.

  • I think I agree with Naoki Hirai's comment, but I must say that it has been a bit mysterious how/when to use that include 'In translation' option (checkbox). I simply wish there was better documentation, and some good diagrams of how the workflow is affected for a given publication and its components.

  • Hi Seiki-san,

I think that the TranslationJob option Include 'In translation' exists to deal with this kind of translation case. However, if the topics have already translated and moved to Translated status, this option does not work as you expected. In my opinion, if you share topics between publications, you need to manage translation progress for those shared topics. For example, you should confirm the translation progress by referring to a translation report before publishing the publication that has been translated.

    Cheers,

    Naoki
