64-bit version of Studio

Please create a 64-bit version of Studio. At present only a 32-bit version is available, and therefore it can theoretically only access 2-3GB of system memory, meaning that upgrading your machine with more memory then this does not have any beneficial impact on Studio performance.

When handling large files & projects, allowing Studio access to all of your system's memory would make a huge difference in time and performance, and for this the app needs to be 64-bit.

Are there any plans to release a 64-bit version in future?

  • I am going to be a bit of a "heretic" here. If an application has bottlenecks or its architecture is not optimized performance-wise, then a 64-bit version is very likely to "propagate" (to use TM terminology) the very same issues. Take for example MS Notepad. If you try to open a txt file of some MBs it is likely to crash. Now, take the 32-bit version of EmEditor. It can open a 10 GB txt file in 90 seconds. The 64-bit version can accomplish the same in 54 seconds. So, the former program, even in a state-of-the-art PC is not likely to perform any better, whereas the latter, even on a crappy PC can vastly outperform the former.
