Change to licencing procedures adapted to working from home/office alternatively & often changing computers

I suggest implementing a more modern licencing system, like the one Xbench or Finereader uses nowadays : give a licence, and one can then open the software on various computers, as long as it’s used only on one computer at a time. When a second person opens with the same licence on another computer, the software just says : your licence is already in use, or something like that. This way one can change computer without having anything to do.

For the moment, we have to deactivate/reactivate, and this procedure often does not work properly. Of if one computer crashes for eg (I had the case the other day), the only thing we can do after installing the software on our new computer is email the helpdesk.

The network licence does not help either if you are working from home and not from a workplace (which is becoming the norm now).

  • This already exists: I use the network license both from office and at home devices and it works like a charm. You just need to set up the license software on your company (webpage) webserver. (you already get such servers at very low costs per year) But of course the price of the network license is quite high. If I didn't need the additional languages (as I need 6 languages to work with which is quite uncommon as a freelancer), I have to admit, that I would never have bought it at these costs just for switching PC. An alternative would be to use the Plus versions with a second license included. (if it's only used on the same 2 PCs all the time) Then you can switch whenever you want.

  • Subscription based licenses (launched with SDL Trados Studio 2021 as an alternative to perpetual licenses) already support this way of working.
