"XML: DITA 1.3 v 2.0.0.0" file type setting to automatically save target files with the same encoding as source files

"XML: DITA 1.3 v 2.0.0.0" (also known as "XML 2:OASIS DITA 1.3 Compliant") file type setting was built purposely to detect and place the most suitable encoding in the target files when there is no encoding declared in the source files, this "new" behavior has introduced an extremely inefficient step to the workflow when users having to save target files with the required or expected encoding one file at a time with a project size of hundreds of target files and multiple languages.

Moreover, the source files are actually saved with the UTF-8 with or without signature encoding despite lacking the explicit encoding declared in the source files, I would like to see the Trados Studio detect the file encoding of source files and automatically save target files with the same encoding as source files. The request is to mimic the same behavior as its predecessor file type setting, "XML: DITA 1.2 v 1.2.0.0".

  • Thanks Areerat. We would need sample files and steps to reproduce for this, as encodings should be detected and preserved (and then this would not be an idea but rather a bug). If you have a support contract, I would suggest you get in touch with our team so we can follow up. If you don't, you could post a query on the community and we could take things from there. Thanks, Daniel
