Add Option to Select Language in Draft Online

The Draft Online option does not allow users to select the language to edit the publication content. The Review Online option, however, does allow the language selection option for users to choose a language. The only way content authors can edit translated content in Draft Space is by manually changing the language in the browser URL from en-US. The image below shows the language parameter which has to be changed in the Draft Space URL for editing translated content.

It would be nice to be able to select a language in Draft Space through a dialog similar to the language selection dialog option available in Review Online as shown in the image below. This would allow content authors to easily edit language-specific content without manually having to modify the language in the browser URL.

  • Thanks for your feedback. Enabling such a button in Draft Space (so Draft Online) does have some implications for the translation flow though. Any editing you do there will not go upstream into your translation memory or even to your translation vendor - so in turn it might mean you are doing editing over and over again. Furthermore, if editing becomes full translation mode for translators we open the door for other challenges on seeing mixed languages and more.

Doing editing on "Translated" content means you need workflow authorization to do that as well. If your to-be-edited translation was the source language for pivotting into yet another language (German to English to Finish, because there are simply more people speaking the English-Finish combination than the German-Finish combination or imagine other more obscure combinations), then you are updating something that has derivatives with some demands on how to handle that.

The language selection is there in Review Space (so Review Online) as reviewers are not changing the content, they are reviewing/confirming/annotating on top of the content.

I hope this sheds some light on why the button is not there. To be clear for people applying this url-trick, workflow always applies, so if you had the rights to do this before (because your Administrator) then the system also assumes that you know what you are doing.
