Option to edit content in the XML tab in the Draft Space

Sometimes the reviewer or the developer/SMEs want to edit the XML source available in the Draft space area to edit any content. Is it possible to have an edit option so as to know which elements are allowed to edit.

It would be great if we could add the chunking attribute in Draft Space before publishing in HTML.  The work of adding the attribute, re-publishing, and viewing the HTML publication would all be completed in the browser, making it easier.  In addition, placing the chunking attribute in the DITA XML may not be completed by an Author using oXygen.  It would be completed by a Marketing SME, for example, who specifically prepares content for the web site.

  • Thanks for the idea! Draft Space is specifically designed to not involve working with raw XML and in fact there was quite some internal debate about whether to show the read-only XML source view at all. We felt that on balance it could be useful to some people.

The tool for working directly with XML is Oxygen or XMetaL; they do a great job of allowing editing while helping avoid errors. Draft Space simply isn't architected to be that kind of XML editor but to excel at a more friendly yet still structured view on things.

We'll keep listening to any feedback about this and after all, we can "never say never" in tech, but I would say that this wouldn't be a priority in the short term so will mark this idea accordingly for now. Thanks again!
