We are pleased to announce that SDL BeGlobal 4.1 has been released.

The highlight of BeGlobal 4.1 includes the support for Dictionary which enables users to affect the output of a machine translation system in real-time, indiscriminately of the users proficiency on machine translation systems. The dictionary feature is a way for SDL MT to empower users to have control over the automated translation output.  Dictionary enables enterprises to enforce specific corporate terminologies on the MT output, and prioritize the importance of brand consistency over what the MT system might prefer instead.  An enterprise can have various dictionaries on the same core engine. A change made on one dictionary does not impact all users as users choose at translation time to use a dictionary or not.

What's New
Dictionary feature

  • Accounts with appropriate subscriptions can now create and use Dictionaries in BeGlobal, to enforce specific translations
  • Dictionaries are source-target language specific, but not model specific.  Meaning a Dictionary created for English to French can be used when translating with a Generic model, Travel model, or customer specific model
  • Dictionary lists management is available to Admin and Linguist user roles only.  Users with Translator role can use Dictionary when they create a translation, but they cannot modify or view entries in Dictionary list
  • Multiple Dictionaries can be used for one translation job, both from Web UI and REST API

Brand feature

  • Accounts with appropriate subscriptions can now create and use a Brand list in BeGlobal, to ensure that brands are the same regardless of what language the content is in
  • Brand list is automatically applied to all translation on the account and users do not have to select it at the time of translation
  • Entries in Brand list are essentially terms and phrases that should not be translated
  • Brand list management is available to Admin and Linguist user roles only.

Linguist user role

  • A user with Linguist role has permissions to Translate module and permissions to create, modify, and delete Dictionaries and Brand lists

Enhanced PDF support

  • BeGlobal includes a new PDF conversion library that is producing better results with format preservation when translating pdf documents
  • PDF translation default output is now set to Microsoft Word (Docx): end-user can edit the translated document and perform adjustments and modifications if needed.
  • Scanned PDF translation has also been improved and the conversion will now try to keep the formatting preserved
