Having to merge them one at a time is maddening.
Our SMEs love tables and they love to merge cells. I cannot figure out how to select a group of cells and merge them at the same time.

Would it be feasible to describe where you are in the software? What program or feature are you looking at? Product Version?

Merge the two cells in the first row by selecting Home > Alignment > Merge Cellscommand. Select the merged cell and select Home > Clipboard > Format Painter. Click and hold the first cell on the next row, and select all the range by dragging your mouse.
Type = and select the first cell you want to combine. Type & and use quotation marks with a space enclosed. Select the next cell you want to combine and press enter. An example formula might be =A2&" "&B2. More info : docsbay.net/combine-text-from-two-or-more-cells-into-one-cell
