In a NON live-TM environment, some users are have no 'Save and Update TM' button in Browser Workbench

Question:

In a non-live TM Worldserver environment, some users do not see the Save and Update TM button in Browser Workbench when translating or reviewing a file/task. They only see the Save button.

What might be the reason for that? Other users are able to see that button and update the TM by clicking on it, as displayed here:

Answer:

There are two possible reasons for this behavior:

1- The Translation Memory associated to the file is restricted and the user does not have Write permission for this TM. You can see that by opening the relevant TM from

Management > Linguistic Tool Setup > Translation Memory Setup

This is an example of how a restricted TM where a user has only Read only access could look like. The relavant view is the Access Control tab:

2- Another reason for this behavior might be that the User lacks permission to update the TM in her/his User Type.  The relevant permission is Can save asset and update TM:

Resolution:

1- If you want your users to be able to update the Translation Memory associated with the files/tasks they are working on, you need to give them the permission to write into theTranslation Memory. If the Translation Memory is restricted and the users have no access or only "read" permissions, they will not be able to update that TM. That includes  being able to update the TM through the Save and Update TM button in Browser Workbench

If you want your users to be able to update the relevant TM, you can

  • either remove all restrictions from the TM
  • or add the affected users to the users with Write permission in the TM settings.

Once you have done this, the Save and Update TM button in Browser Workbench will appear again.

2- If the TM is not restricted, the reason for the missing button is probably related the User Type settings. Enable the relevant permission Can save asset and update TM in the User Type.
