I love this plugin AppNotifications:

because it notifies, downloads and installs updated plugins all in an automated way.
I'd like to confirm that the plugin takes care of uninstalling any previous versions, I mean that a manual uninstall via Plugin Manager is not needed any more.
Am I right?

It actually does the same job as the plugin manager. So when you run the plugin manager it does remove the previous version.
