Autoupdate Studio 2017 - error message: "Server Script, Line 311: Argument 1 must be of type string"

Question

Dear all,

I wanted to check if there is an update available for our Studio 2017 (not the upgrade to 2019), but always got the message that there is an error in the update script:
"Server Script, Line 311: Argument 1 must be of type string".

Does anybody know what this means and how I can check for new updates?
We are currently having a bug with Serbian and project creation and so I tried to autoupdate to hopefully fix this bug / these bugs ...

Are you working in a company? On their corporate domain? 
If so, I suspect the error maybe down to the corporate policy blocking the install of the update (which you should be able to normally do via the notifications bar on the right of the screen or via HELP- Search for updates.

This is a difficult one to be honest as there are no other recorded cases of this, so I really do think it must be a local issue. 
As you have mentioned a scripting error- maybe this is down to IE (even though you probably use a different browser- you should still need to have IE installed). Therefore, I suggest maybe resetting IE and enabling active scripting- 
Step 1 
To Reset Internet Explorer- 
 
1. Start Internet Explorer. 
2. On the Tools menu, tap or click Internet options. If you don't see the Tools menu, press Alt. 
3. In the 'Internet Options' window, tap or click the Advanced tab. 
4. Tap or click Reset. 
 
Step 2 
Enabling Active X 
 
1. Click Tools > Internet Options on the browser menu bar. 
2. Click the Security tab. 
3. Click the Internet icon. 
4. Click Custom Level. 
5. Click the Scripting > Active Scripting list item. 
6. Click Enable.
