Hi,
I don't seen an option to open a Package received from a client in SDL Trados Live. What am I missing?
If you check the release notes you'll see this part:
The good thing is that since this is a cloud solution we can continue to add to this application without the need for you to install anything new. So in due course this capability will be there. It obviously has a very high priority for us.
If you now that the files in the package have not been pre-translated at all then you can work on them in the cloud by converting them to XLIFF files first:
https://multifarious.filkin.com/2020/07/30/lazy-xliff/
But if they've been pre-translated you cannot and will have to wait until this feature has been added.
Thank you. I cannot read it all, but I do hope it will be implemented soon as I receive more and more packages and they make up the bulk of my work load these days. I'll be waiting 'patiently' (I'm not known to be patient at all lol)
Yikes! Guess I should have read the notes more carefully. Packages (usually pre-translated) make up over 90% of my work. I won't be able to use Live until this is added, looking forward to the feature!
I had the same question. Hopefully, very soon. That is the reason why I bought Studio 2021.
I am very disappointed, because I spent a lot of money to purchase Trados studio plus Live and now I learn that I CANNOT work with packages, which make the majority of my jobs.

Well... you paid for Trados Studio and we provided Trados Live at no additional cost. You can still open your packages in Studio, you just can't get them into the Cloud without some messing around. Trados Live is a Cloud product so you can expect that it will be updated in the future with all the functionality you're looking for. It's an evolving product... part of the reason why it's currently free.
O
I'm with Socratis here. I upgraded from Studio 2019 to 2021 exclusively because of the added Live functionality (none of the other changes would have convinced me to upgrade). Had I known Live didn't support packages, I would've waited to upgrade until it did.
Sorry hear you get no value whatsoever from the other changes in Trados Studio 2021. For me (personal opinion obviously!) the Trados Live part is the last bit that would have encouraged me to upgrade. This version solves many problems that users have had for years and there are many new apps that only work on 2021 that are well worth having.
But if you really want to handle the packages in the cloud now (which really does need to be supported... and it will soon) then you could do this:
I'm only suggesting this in case you're interested. It's quite a well managed process and if you really see value in using the Cloud for this then it's probably worth the effort.
... or just take the sdlxliff files out of the project you create when you open the package and create a new project in the cloud with them. Finally putting them back into the target folder in Studio when you've translated them.
So two fairly straightforward workarounds for now.
11 months have passed and there's still no option to open a Package in Trados Live? I would have thought this would get priority but clearly nobody cares what actual customers want I guess. Wish I was surprised.
