I installed SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2 last week and I noticed that the Termbase Viewer layout keeps resetting each time I close/re-open Studio.
My preferred layout is the "Default layout" (quicker to edit entries) but Studio systematically reverts back to the "Flags layout" (not as user-friendly). In MultiTerm 2019 (CU4), my layout preferences ("Default layout") are kept.
I remember having that issue a few CUs ago and it was later fixed. I think it was OK in my previous version of Studio (SR1 CU3).
Has anyone experienced this issue with SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.
I’m attaching screenshots showing my current Studio/MultiTerm settings as well as the TB Viewer layouts mentioned.
Hi Alexa Dubreuil-Storer
I can reproduce this behaviour with my Studio 2019 SR2 Pro version and MultiTerm CU4.
I hadn't noticed this because I always work with Flags layout because I prefer it! So I changed it to Default, closed Studio, opened it and the same project sdlxliff again and it had returned to Flags layout.
All the best,
Please try the following: right click Multiterm, chose "run as admin". Then open the termbase and change the prefferrences. Close Multiterm, open Studio and check there. I don't know, if that helps - but is at least worth a try.
Hello Jerzy Czopik. I have just tried your suggestion but it makes no difference I’m afraid. Thank you very much though. It was indeed worth a try.
Hi Alison Field. So it’s not just me then...
Did Jerzy’s suggestion work for you?
The odd thing is that I have now also noticed that it depends on which TM I have open in the Studio Editor view. For instance, my Financial TB insists on keeping the old Flags layout whereas the small TB that I created this afternoon is displaying with the Default layout.
So maybe it has something to do with the way TBs are created... Then again, it was fine before...
Anyway, I’ll have a look at how my TBs are set up in MultiTerm itself in case I can "force" the default layout there.
Does this happen for all termbases or only for particular one. I seem to remember, that I have tried to change the layout as you did for a certain TB, but then in Studio it was again the flags layout. But in this very case the same layout was also activated in MT, so the situation is not exactly as yours. My last idea would be simply installing Studio first and then Multiterm, taking the latest downloads from your account and executing them both as administrator.
Oh, this answers my question, at least partially. Maybe you simply export the TB,save the TB definition and then recreate the TB? Of course if you create a new TB, you can use exactly the same name and settings - but store it in a different place. If that works, you could replace the old one with the new one.
Hi Alexa Dubreuil-Storer, hi Jerzy Czopik
I think this is termbase-specific. I created a new project with a different termbase and on opening the file in Studio Editor, the Termbase Viewer window changed visibly from Flags view to the Default view.
Hi Jerzy Czopik. Your solution about the TB Viewer layout worked.
I exported my rebellious financial TB, saved the TB definition, recreated the TB and replaced the old TM (I made a backup of it beforehand). In Studio 2019 SR2 (Editor View), the TB is now using my preferred Default layout.
Thanks a lot!
Excellent! Nice one, Jerzy!
Hi Alexa Dubreuil-Storer and Jerzy Czopik,I experienced the same issue the other way round: I prefer Flags layout (I need to use an input model for my work), and Studio keeps displaying the termbase viewer in Default layout and always "forgets" the selected input model upon startup. I selected and activated both the layout and the input model in MultiTerm, to no avail.Recreating the termbase didn't help either.

Has the project been created with a template? What happens, if you remove the TBs from the project, then the project from Studio, restart Studio and then consequently add the project and the TBs to the project?
And if there are more than one TB in a project: do all of these have the same layout activated?
Hi Jerzy Czopik,
No, it was a WorldServer project to which I had added my own TB and made it "Default". I removed the TBs from the project more than once, restarted Studio and added them again, but to no avail.
In the other termbase, the "Default" layout was activated, but changing that did not make any difference. After one of the crashes I experienced lately, Studio suddenly remembered that I had selected "Flags layout", god knows why...
The problem with the input model being forgotten, however, remains, even though it is activated in MultiTerm.
Sorry, I have no more ideas...
