Few days ago, I updated my Studio 2017 installation to CU18.
When trying to open multiple files where one or more documents have comments, we get the "all-time-classic" 'object reference not set to an instance of an object' error message!
More about this error can be found here: /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/90/sdlerror_2D00_20191220_2D00_16h44m6s.sdlerror.xml.zip
In an effort to understand why this is happening, I revert back my Studio 2017 to CU17, and no error comes up when saving the same files in Editor. I've tried in Studio 2019 SR2 CU5 w/ no issues as well.
Kindly note that the comments should be translated hence the project settings below.
Hello NLG GmbH ,
This was an issue with virtually merged files in earlier versions of 2017.
CU5 fixed this (hence why you don't have issues after rolling back).
Unfortunately this is the first case reported for the CU18 release, so maybe its worth logging a ticket (as an installation issue) and the support team can have a look at this.
Hello Steven Whale
Just to make it clear to anyone read this post:
The problem occurred after the upgrade from CU17 to CU18 and it's temporarily solved by downgrading to CU17.
I'm gonna log a ticket to your support.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Merry Christmas to you also. :-)
Please let us know the outcome of the ticket and how this might be resolved.
The problem is that our files have comments, so even in CU18 when we delete the comments, virtually merged files can be opened in saved.
Did you log a support ticket? Have they been able to provide a solution/workaround?
Steven Whale: No, as it is easily solved by removing the comments
