Hi, when trying to open a Transit package in Studio 2017, I get an "access denied" message. I have changed the name of the 188.8.131.52 folder to "old", but it still doesn't work. Can anybody help me, please?

Hello Pilar García-Romeu,

will normally indicate that Studio doesn't have access to the file path.
Please copy the files into a different location such C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Studio 2017\Projects\Customer folder
Then restart Studio by right clicking and run as administrator.
Can you access the folder/package now?
Thanks for your reply. The message turns up before I get to choose any file. I am in the Projects view, I click on Open StarTransit Package and I get the error.
Any idea why this is happening?
Hello Pilar García-Romeu ,
Im fairly confident this has
Have you saved the files to a different location as suggested above and started (right click) Studio as Administrator?
If so, please remove the plugin, then reinstall from here-
You can then check the plugin has installed correctly by navigating to this folder
C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Packages
Now check you can navigate to the projects folder and open the package
Thanks again. I uninstalled the plug-in and re-installed it following your instructions. It worked this time and I managed to convert a Transit package into Studio, but when I tried to open the file in it, it triggered the start of Transit and opened in Transit, not in Studio. The "Open for translation" and "Open for revision" items were greyed out. So I uninstalled the plug-in again and tried to re-install it, but now it won't.
Surely I must be doing somethig wrong, but I don't know what.
Hello Pilar García-Romeu ,
Please go to File Options File Types and check the file type is enabled-
Then restart Studio and see if the options to op[en a package are now enabled
If you still have issues, could you send me the package please (email@example.com) to have a look at.
The Transit type file is not included in the list, so i cannot check it.
Is there a way to include it?
Hello Pilar García-Romeu ,
Can you see the plugin in this folder?
Great. Please ensure you close Studio first- then navigate to that folder and double click to install.
Now restart Studio and check the plugin.
If you are still having issues, make sure you are logged on to the PC as ADMIN and not a secondary user account and also that you Start/Run Studio as ADMIN,
Thanks for your reply.
I am the Administrator of my computer. I closed Studio and clicked on the plugin in the 14 folder. Then I started Studio as Administrator. The plugin is gone from Studio and from the 14 folder. The Open to translate item is still greyed out and Transit bilingual files is still not on the list.
We have now tried various scenarios to try to reproduce this, but simply are unable to do so.
Would you be able to send me the package please (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we can take a look.
Thanks again for your reply. I am afraid I am subject to confidentiality and cannot share the customer's package. However, I don't think the package is the problem. I have tried again installing the plugin downloading it first (not running it straight away from the webpage) and importing an entirely different package. The plugin is again in the 14 folder, but the same thing happened: Transit is not included in File types, Open for translation remains grayed out and, when I double-click on the file, the Transit application is opened. It looks like it's more a plugin problem. Also, I imported the packages in memoQ and they worked OK.
As I have previously mentioned, we have tested this and the plugin works fine (using the same Studio version)
To install the plugin, you must first download (eg)
And then install. You cannot run directly from the webpage.
I'm now wondering whether this is perhaps something to do with your Browser Security- Im aware that certain Browsers (Firefox) have implemented security features (default settings) that won't allow installation automatically from the downloads folder.
Perhaps, even if you can see the plugin in the correct folder, something might have been stripped out of the plugin- which is completely disabling it.
Try moving the plugin to a separate folder (under your document folder structure) and installing from there. (Remove the previous installs first).
I did everything you said, but Firefox doesn't seem to be blocking any downloads. Yet, I moved the file to another folder and installed the plugin from there (after having removed it). The File type is now on the list.
But the Open for translation, etc. items are not enabled.
And when I click on the project to create the return package, it doesn't consider it a Transit project.
My Transit license doesn't allow me to create projects, but if you can send one I could send it back to you after puting it through the process to see what is going on.
Thanks for your help.
Firefox doesn't block you downloading the app- but depending on the settings it does block you from installing directly from the downloads folder.
As you have now successfully installed the app you are able to see the file type and the Open Transit Package option is now enabled.
The following suggests that the problem actually lies with the package itself
Pilar García-Romeu said:And when I click on the project to create the return package, it doesn't consider it a Transit project.
As you arent able to share your package with me - I have sent (email) you a different package you can test - this works absolutely fine in my 2017 installation.
I have created a project with your package and unfortunately got the same problem. When I tried to open the file in Studio, it asked for the app I wanted to open it with externally. So I couldn't "work" with it.
And when I tried to create a return package, Studio didn't recognize it as a Transit package.
I am sending the created Studio project by email.
Any news about this issue with the package I sent?
Please can you explain, step by step as if you were explaining to someone else how to use this tool, what you are doing? It might help us to see where things are going wrong.
When I read through this thread I actually don't have any idea what you are doing to get the screens you do.
