I've had this problem for ages with 2019. I have tried all the tips mentioned in all the threads I found on the subject, but nothing works. It only happens when I "create a new project", not if I "translate as a single document". I have 2017 running on the same machine and it never throws up this error. I usually reboot and reboot and reboot, and eventually it will start to work on 2019. However, for two days running I have been unable to start a job, as it is persistently giving this error message. Perhaps upgrading to 2021 will help? :)
I'm having this problem constantly now, any ideas?
It doesn't have the icon you mentioned
Hello peter culley ,
It is always useful to post the full error stack as this often provides useful information and actually let us know what you have tried to fix the issue so we don't go over the same ground twice-
As you mention everything works fine in 2017, and the issue only happens when you try to create a project, then the following (free) tool - LockHunter may help find where the issue is originating from
Hi Steven, thanks for the response. Lockhunter is also one of the tools I use to try and combat this error, but it never works. It always says that Trados is the software that is locking the file. It says that it has successfully unlocked it, but no. :)
I had this problem when my source files were not in C:
Are your source files in C:?
If your source files are not in C:, move them to C: before starting project creation.
You can also create the project with a small sample file located in C:, then you can remove it and add the actual files
Further to Stefano's reply, It's perhaps worth checking if Studio (and MultiTerm) has been added to your AntiVirus providers 'exceptions list'.
My files are in C:. However, do you mean the actual hard drive (root) without being in any folder?
I'm using the default virus protection issued with Windows 10. I can't find where to add exceptions, but would this really do this on a random basis? It works perhaps 1 out of 20 tries.
No, they must not be in the root of C:, so your problem is due to something else
Create a very small txt file with notepad, just containing 1 word, then use this file to create the project.
Do you get the error also in this case?
Then remove the file and add the actual files.
This is still a source of stress and frustration. Pity there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it.
Perhaps if we could just check the folder structure that you are using-
Where exactly are you saving the files/Studio/projects?
If for instance you create a folder in the default Studio path (e.g.)
C:\Users\yourname\Documents\Studio 2019\Customer files
Then drop a file into the customer files folder and now try to create a project.
Does the problem persist?
Thanks for that tip. However, it does not help at all. I have one job for tomorrow, but Trados is being very stubborn with this problem today. I've tried 20+ times, but to no avail Steven Whale Considering I've now been working 12 hours nonstop and this would be my last job of the day, I'm not a happy bunny. I have no other alternative but to wake up (too) early in the morning and just hope and pray it starts to work.
Steven Whale I decided to upgrade my 2019 F+ to 2021 F+ today in the hope that the problem would disappear. Just went through the complicated process of finding the activation code and got the software to function, BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL POPPING UP! Now I'm just as stressed and €168 poorer to boot. I don't know whether or not you work for SDL, but do you know ANYONE who could help?
