Reinstalling Groupshare 2017

We need to reinstall Groupshare. Do we have to download every TM manually, perform the install, then recreate all containers, users, etc., then create all new empty TMs and import the TMs from the manually downloaded ones? A few months ago, we had to upgrade our GS server, so we installed it anew and had to do he steps mentioned here. Simply connecting GS to the existing database with all the containers, TMs, etc. didn't seem to work. When we would log in to GS, we couldn't see any of it, so we had to create them all again manually and import the backed up TMs. It's a LOT of tedious work that we'd like to avoid if possible.

  • Hi Bobby,

For anyone to correctly answer your question, you would need to give more info.

I'm not going to ask you why do you want to do the reinstall but for the beginning just three questions:

Is you GS 2017 currently running and is in your production environment?

Do you plan to re-install it on the same savers and in the same configuration / feature set as you have it right now?

Which version of GS2017 you are currently running?

  • I don't mind answering why we are doing the reinstall. We need to because something is corrupt. On some of our larger TMs and on projects with many languages/TMs in GS, we get very strange analysis results, wherein, when we run these projects through GS, we get hardly any pickup and most of the words are considered NEW. When we run the same project against the same TMs but outside of GS, we get the expected results. We do know that we had some errors during installation of the upgrade to our latest version, so we want to do a fresh, clean install. We have already tested this on a dev server in our office and it works fine, so we know we need to reinstall.

Is you GS 2017 currently running and is in your production environment?

    YES & YES

Do you plan to re-install it on the same savers and in the same configuration / feature set as you have it right now?

    YES & YES

Which version of GS2017 you are currently running?

    UI: 14.1.10
    GS: 14.2.60175.10 - SR1 CU10

  • Hi Bobby

We did reinstall GS server several couple of times and it was done in Maintenance mode. As the re-install was done with the same settings, same SQL same databases,  etc.  everything went well.

With GS 2017 SR1 CU8 and newer, re installation process is what you expect it to be, so nothing like when you upgraded from previous version.

On the same server with same feature set, when in Maintenance mode, setup retains the settings so you will be offered previously configured settings.

As this days servers are mostly vizualized, doing a snapshot helps, in case results are not as you expected them. (you have a quick step back).

Related to the reason you mentioned, I cannot say anything as we would always use Studio for project analysis.
