Saving Update Log

I run automation to update and generate resources twice a week.  When I did this work interactively, I would save the update log after updating.  I would use this output as input to another program that would generate a list of dialogs that had been changed or added with that update - inputs to generating a test plan.  (I would go to the message area, click Display Report, and then save to a folder.) 

But with automation, I don't have an opportunity to save the report - it just goes straight to the generate step, and the update log is lost.

Is there a way to save Update Logs via automation?  I can get the data interactively by filtering, but creating the list of affected dialogs is manual - and sometimes there are 50+ dialogs to record, so automation really is best for this.
