Bring back GroupShare Team Edition

Small, "black box" on-site installations for small LSPs with no complex IT infrastructure is something the current version of GroupShare is simply too large for. The GroupShare Cloud is a different approach due to the "cloud" aspect. We need the Team version back, installed and preconfigured automatically with SQL Express.

  • Hi , I understand what you're saying and indeed the current GroupShare may feel a bit heavy for such small LSPs. I would like to better understand why GroupShare Cloud is not a suitable solution though. That is one of the main reasons we came up with GroupShare Cloud, for the customers with smaller teams.

  • Well, this was already available several times in the past. By small LSPs I mean a large number of agencies who don't even have an IT department. Trust me, there are hundreds of them. Installing server is not always straightforward, same goes with SQL Server. In most cases small companies will never go with separate tiers - everything is installed on one machine: web server, application server, and sql server. The default config is very heavy and it's obviously tailored for medium to large installations. If you have to run a small 5-10 user config, agencies tend to choose a simple solution - they just need the way to share the TM and manage access. Since the file sharing of TMs is basically gone (current limitations of the SQL Lite engine used for SDLTM will not change), I recalled the Team version of GroupShare (and TM Server - in more distant past). It was a lightweight version of the TM Server with SQL Server embedded in the installed. No detailed configuration was necessary and the installation was pretty much just running the default wizard. Hope this sheds more light on the subject.

  • , I think Agenor is referring to some sort of bundled software that has GroupShare and SQL Express (or some other sort of very

small and lightweight DB) which can be easily installed by the customer with no SDL Professional Services assistance - upgrades are also easy to do by a non expert in IT.  - do you mind giving us more details? This is an interesting one. Thank you, Adrian.

  • Which part of the current GroupShare setup/components you find hard for small LSPs? (trying to understand what "small" means)
