Idea Delivered Partially

Setting to Idea Delivered Partially. It might actually be fully delivered as you can search for text in tags - so this should allow you to filter for "bold" segments or for "12" to catch font sizes for instance in many file formats. We will monitor further feedback and setting this to partially delivered in the meantime.

Filter segments by format such as highlight, font color, size etc.

Summary: allow segments to be filtered by font color, highlighting, bold, underline etc.

I frequently get given projects by clients that may have a couple of thousand segments but in which there are only a small number of segments that actually need translating. Typically, the client has marked text in these segments with a different color font (green seems to be a favourite) or by highlighting the text.

I would like to be able to filter segments by format so that I can immediately see which segments I have to work on. This would allow workflows such as locking all segments, filtering on highlighted text, and unlocking only those highlighted segments. It would be a massive timesaver.

SDL's comment was that "Well, you should be preparing the files better," but that is not something over which I routinely have control - the client has their own approach to work. Nor is it efficient to go through an entire Word or Excel file marking text as hidden or not hidden - that would probably take even longer than what I'm currently doing in Studio 2017.

So, if you want more powerful and sophisticated filtering to look at only subsets of your project segments, vote for this!

Thanks for this update (2020-10-07). When you say "you can search for text in tags" do you mean in Studio 2021 or is this something that is in 2019 and that I have overlooked?

  • Today (2018-10-31) I downloaded v3.7 of the Community Advanced Display Filter plugin from the App Store. Previous versions of this plugin simply did not work for me - the filter did not return the segments I expected - but this latest version does appear to allow filtering by colour. This is a welcome improvement, and may well work as a stopgap for some people. Nevertheless, I would still like to see (a) this functionality incorporated into the core product by default and (b) the ability to filter by other format attributes, such as font properties, highlighting, etc.
