Windows 10

Just want to send out a warning:

Do not upgrade to Windows 10 any machine that is running XPP (standalone, server or client).

The problem is the MKS Xserver that is delivered with the product. It will stop working after the upgrade.
In its log file it will put the following message: 

You are attempting to use the X Server as a full X Server outside of the limited local X Server included in the application.  
Please contact MKS for full X Server options - 800-637-8034 or tk_info@mks.com.

And yes we all know that Windows 10 is not an officialy supported platform for XPP.
But just in case you cave in an finally hit that "upgrade to Window 10" button the 20th time it shows up...

PS: In case you did hit the upgrade to Windows 10 button, the workaround is to use another Xserver.
I am currently using X-win32 2014 and it seems to work fine after an initial fight to load the vuem fonts.

PPS: I have opened a ticket with SDL.
Not that I expect a solution (unsupported platform, remember [:)]) but just that they are aware that this is a potential problem.

    Yes indeed, we have been made aware of this issue and have performed some preliminary investigation.

    As Bart noted, if you look at the Platform Requirements doc for the Active release of XPP 9.1.0, we do note client side support on Windows 7 and Windows 8.

    With that said, we have found that the version of MKS X/Server we deliver with XPP 9.1, MKS X/Server ver 8.6 is also only supported up to Windows 8. We have also found that a newer version of MKS X/Server is available and supported on Windows 10. Initial testing shows some promise. But there is always much more to do than just a quick smoke screen test.

    And the real dilemma we face is even after going through a full QA process of the 3rd party application, how would it be delivered. Since it is a new 3rd party app release, a Service Pack delivery is not proper. This action would require much more than just a Service Pack upgrade.

    We are also finding that the new version of this app there seems tobe some changes within that would also not make Service Pack delivery desirable. The best delivery method for full Windows 10 support would be to deliver all necessary XPP 3rd party apps that are qualified and supported on that Windows 10 client platform in the next new release of XPP. And currently we are tentatively scheduling that next new release of XPP for late 2016.

    We continue to look into this issue since we know that others might have the desire to click on that upgrade icon and move to the new Windows 10. If you do upgrade your XPP clients to Windows 10, which SDL does not recommend until we fully support the version, your best option might be to follow Bart's workaround.
