Getting contextual manual from Pathfinder without using mouse

Hi there, here is an idea from our team which they wish to have it in order to greatly improve the working process in pathfinder.

For our operator, we're trying not to use mouse that much because switching between keyboard and mouse will take extra time.

Is it possible to let our operator to get the contextual menu in the tree view in left hand panel of pathfinder just by pressing keys in keyboard? It will make the whole process more handy if we don't need to switch between mouse and keyboard.

  • Jonathan,

    You are right.
    I completely misread Norman's idea.
Now I understand what he is asking for.
(I have deleted my earlier reply, since it did not bring anything useful to the table)

  • Hi Bart,

I'm trying to understand the "context" (pun intended) of your comment.

Norman's idea relates to (the contextual, or right-click, menus in) PathFinder, and it seems to me like your comment relates to the XyView (e.g. Status Window - not sure what you mean by the "tree")? So I don't see how your comment is related to this Idea.

Piggybacking requests that aren't really related via comments is not recommended - a good way for them to get "lost".

Better to enter a new Idea if you have something different in mind than what Norman was requesting.

  • Let me try again to get a correct link to that Idea:

    community.sdl.com/.../override--supercede-pathfinder-menus-and-buttons-to-execute-other-comments

If that still doesn't work (or gets munged), then just navigate to your new Idea and then go to the sixth previous Idea with a title of "Override / supercede Pathfinder menus and buttons to execute other comments." (really meant "commands") and click on it. This Idea came to include more than what the title says. We'd really like to know if point #1 in Steve Piercey's first comment (that's already been added for XPP 9.3) is the same as the Idea you entered on July 4th?

  • Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for your reply and I'm afriad that I can't access the link in the SDL XPP Idea. Unfortunately, we are still using XPP 9.1.1 and there are a lot of problems occurred since the versions are updated. And I'm not sure when will my employer update it in future.

    Best regards,

    Norman

  • Hi Norman,

Can you take a look at an earlier SDL XPP Idea (community.sdl.com/.../override--supercede-pathfinder-menus-and-buttons-to-execute-other-comments), particularly Steve Piercey's first comment on that Idea and specifically point #1 about the context menus (in PathFinder).

Is that point #1 describing what you're asking for here in your Idea?

If not, then please clarify what you mean in your Idea here.

If it is the same thing, then the good news is that the enhancement to have Shift+F10 in PathFinder bring up (or activate) the context (right-mouse-click) menu is already included in the next 9.3.0 release due out later this year. And shift+F10 will do that in both the Tree View and List View (i.e. both the left- and right-hand panels).
