Support OTF fonts in the Studio editor

It would be great if the Studio Editor could also have support for OTF fonts. Currently, if you have such a font installed and it's used in a file you're translating, then the characters are garbled:

You can change the setting of File > Options > Editor > Sidy-by-side Editor to "Show all tags but do not show formatting" to see the characters as a workaround. This removes all formatting though so you end up turning this option off and on whenever you have to open a document that uses OTF fonts.

SDL Support suggested to use True Type Fonts (TTF) instead. Of course that would work but the reality is that translators just have to deal with whatever documents they receive for translation and that includes documents with Open Type fonts.

  • I don't think this is the place to discuss the use of showing a different fonts in the Studio editor. Some translators like it, others don't. If you don't like it, you can just switch it off.

Studio offers the possibility to show text in different fonts but it is currently limited and that is the issue at hand. If you think WYSIYWYG is unnecessary, you could however add an idea to remove this functionality...

  • While I understand your idea, I would like to know what should be the purpose of showing text in a different font? I mean text shown in Arial ist perfectly clear and readable, while text shown in a curved stylish font would be not. I never use other option than the one you mention here and think, that all this WYSIYWYG in Studio is unnecessary, it makes only more trouble.
