SDL TMS 12.5 | SDL TMS 12.5 Release Announcement (May 2020)

We are pleased to announce the general availability of SDL TMS 12.5. See below for some highlights of this release.

Export and import of Cost Models [Community Idea]
SDL TMS 12.5 includes the ability to export and import a Cost Model. On the Cost Model edit screen, there are two new buttons in the ribbon which allow the Cost Model to be exported and imported. Cost Models are exported as an Excel workbook which have a single protected worksheet which prevents sensitive cells from being edited. Users can open the Excel workbook and make all the changes necessary to the Cost Model before uploading the workbook back into SDL TMS 12.5. When the Excel workbook is imported, the Cost Model information is read from the workbook and reflected in the Cost Model being edited.

Enable locking 100% matches for specific TMs [Community Idea]
To provide better control over the quality of the matches returned from translation memories, SDL TMS 12.5 provides new functionality to allow locking of 100% matches from specific translation memories. When editing a translation memory, there is now an extra field labeled “Match Behaviour” with the following four options available:

  • Leave 100% matches unchanged
  • Lock 100% matches
  • Confirm 100% matches
  • Convert 100% matches to PerfectMatch

The following table illustrates the behaviour of this new setting in conjunction with the “Lock 100% TM matches” setting on the Organization Edit screen:

Alpha-numerical segments control [Community Idea]
When translation memories are exported from SDL TMS 12.5 to SDL Trados Studio format, the system settings which govern the AutoMatch behaviour are now respected in the exported translation memory. The following mappings are applied between SDL TMS and SDL Trados Studio:

SDL TMS 12.5 AutoMatch Setting

SDL Trados Studio Recognizers

Date/Time

Dates, Times

Acronyms

Acronyms, Alphanumeric Strings

Note that the recognizers for Variables and Measurements are always enabled in the SDL Trados Studio translation memory.

Confirmation of number of tasks when submitting from inbox [Community Idea]
When submitting multiple tasks from the user’s Inbox, the confirmation message did not previously display how many tasks were being submitted. In SDL TMS 12.5, the number of tasks that are affected by the action is displayed in the confirmation message to provide more information to the user before the action is confirmed.

Job Quote button on Authorization Summary screen [Community Idea]
In previous versions of SDL TMS, users have had the option to download the job quote from the Job Summary screen using a button on the toolbar (dependent on permissions). In SDL TMS 12.5, users with sufficient permissions also have the option to download the job quote from the Authorization Summary screen.

QA Check Override in a whole job [Community Idea]
The QA checks in SDL TMS can throw up lots of false positives. In previous versions of SDL TMS, the user had to override each of these results individually which was time-consuming and cumbersome. In SDL TMS 12.5, there is a new option when overriding QA checks which allows one of the following options:

  • Just this task
  • All tasks for this file
  • All tasks for this language pair
  • All tasks in this job

There is an additional option to limit the override to “Only my tasks”. The new options allow the QA checks to be overridden for multiple tasks at the same time thus saving considerable time and effort for the user.

Save as new for Cost Models and Workflows [Community Idea]
When editing a Cost Model or a Workflow, there is a new button available in the ribbon which is labeled “Save As New”. Clicking the button will save a copy of the current Cost Model or Workflow and provides a quick way to create new Cost Models and Workflows based on existing ones.

User assignment pages
With large numbers of users, the performance of some of the user assignment pages in SDL TMS was unsatisfactory. SDL TMS 12.5 includes a re-architecture of the way that users are selected and assigned which provides a better user experience with faster response times.

Additional language to match SDL Trados Studio

SDL TMS 12.5 includes support for some additional languages which can be used as target languages when create translation jobs. The following languages have been added:

Arabic (Israel)

Bosnian (Latin)

French (Haiti)

French (Morocco)

Ganda (Uganda)

K'iche' (Guatemala)

Kiswahili (Tanzania)

Luo (Kenya)

Russian (Ukraine)

Sesotho (Lesotho)

Soga (Uganda)
